Using Music with Surgery

I've been doing research on the use of music during surgery and have discovered some amazing and important things. Is anyone out there interested??

Great progress is being made with my research into how powerful music is when used in surgery. Simply decreasing the amount of anesthesia needed is a huge advantage. As you probably know, many surgeons listen to their favorite music while operating but typically, the music they choose is the opposite of what the patient needs.

I've just returned from S.C. where my mother had a heart catheterization. She asked if it might be possible for her to have her own music through headphones during the procedure and the doctor said that it would be fine. Together, we chose a CD of familiar melodies played on a harp with soft rhythmic ocean waves in the background. The procedure went so well that they decided they really didn't need to do anything else for now, such as insert more stents or new stents. As a direct result of the music, she needed less anesthesia and was talking lucidly to me (off and on) right after the procedure. For an 80 y.o. woman who has had open heart surgery in the past, two hip replacements, back surgery, appendectomy and five children, this went remarkably well! Please see www.HealingMusicEnterprises.com for more info on music with surgery!

Well, I'm headed back to S.C. where my mother is having surgery again. This time it is to repair a strangulated hiatal hernia that is preventing any food from getting into her stomach. She's doing OK in the meantime but has already requested her music for surgery. I'll be driving down later today.

I would welcome your comments, suggestions and prayers.

Hi again folks. As it turned out,the surgery was postponed so she could get a little strength back and so now that's what she's doing.

Meanwhile, I'm gathering the very best music for surgery that I can find so that we can have more time before the surgery to try different types of music and gauge her response to various pieces.

Please share your stories about music and surgery with me! I'll be forever grateful! :-)
